Supply Chain is about using e-business to work faster and cheaper with your customers and suppliers, benefiting both. Typically it will mean receiving orders or data from your customer via the internet, or it might mean doing the same with your own suppliers.

As a Supplier you may be under pressure from one or more of your customers to receive orders or other business data electronically, or they may want you to send them information such as invoices, delivery dates or details of the deliveries you are making. This might be causing you concern that you will lose them as a customers if you don't work with them, or that the technology you need will be too complex or expensive.

On the plus side, if you do participate it will be easier to retain that customer long term, and you might take business from other suppliers who won't work with them. It could also present you with an opportunity to offer an improved service to your other customers, or to attract new ones.

As a Customer you can probably see that using the internet to work with your suppliers will give you better visibility of what they are doing and when, which will allow you to provide a more reliable service to your customers. This can save time, reduce paperwork and errors and reduce costs. You may be seeking an e-business solution to allow you to work more quickly and efficiently with your suppliers or be having problems getting your supply base to join in with a system you have already implemented.

It can be simple; you may only need to log onto a special website to share information with your customers, or to add a new area to your own website to work with your suppliers.
